There was always something about April.

They said that April showers brought May flowers,

but for her, they did not.

For her, April housed endings.

April served as a tomb for all things that would not survive the winter.

All things that seemed unwilling or unable to bloom for her:

love, dreams, friendships, versions of herself

she would now leave behind.

So, April showers instead ushered in several hours of quiet echoes from everything that left her.

Everything she could not hold onto.

The puddles she stepped over were the grief-laden tears

she had collected from people, passions, and promises

that would only now surface as memories.

May could not come sooner.
