You see,

there was a power that she had underestimated all along.

All her life, it had been introduced to her as a failing.


As long as she had existed,

she had been reproached as an “overthinker”:

she thought too much; she was too much.

She felt too deeply; she took things too seriously.


However,

the same individuals who reproached her

held no qualms about using her unique qualities

for their benefit.


To them,

these qualities became useful

when they needed her emotional support.


They became useful

when they needed her intricate analysis

of their own situations and quandaries.


They became useful

when they needed to feel a little less alone

and alienated by their pain.


She resolved

that her tendency to “overthink”

was her power…

and that others were not

thinking enough.
